WORLD OUTREACH:

Through our World Outreach Program we are able to extend our hands to everyone around the world.  It is very exciting to be a part of this ministry. You do not have to travel far to fight hunger, create fair trade, or eradicate extreme poverty.  Some of the ministries we participate in are:

BEADS FOR LIFE: By selling and buying the beautiful handmade jewelry made from recycled paper, you help to eradicate poverty in Kampala Uganda.  This is done by allowing the women to use their skills so that they may create income in order to leave poverty behind. This jewelry provides an unusual and unique gift for any occasion. You can become a party host yourself or do fund raisers for your favorite organization. Either way we are here to help you get started.

EQUAL EXCHANGE FAIR TRADE: Have you ever thought about what would happen if coffee, chocolate and tea could be traded in a way that is honest and fair, a way that empowers both farmers and consumers alike?  Well if you have, this is the ministry you are looking for. EEFT buys directly from small-scale farmers who own and run the farms themselves. All the products are organic. These products come from many countries around the world giving you the opportunity to consume wonderful products at an affordable price, while knowing that you are helping to develop a better life for others. If you would like to be part of this ministry or become a consumer, call us at Park Place Christian Church and we will help you to be a host for your congregation, family, friends, or as a fund raiser for your favorite organization. These products also make great gifts.

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL: Since 1944 Heifer International has been helping people around the world end hunger. By providing livestock and training to families, they are able to overcome unimaginable living conditions. Once these animals reproduce, the offspring is given to other farm families in need.  When you donate money for the purchase of animals or buy greeting cards or trees you will be providing tools needed to help others make a better life for their families. You may also want to donate to HI as a gift to family and friends. If you would like to participate in this ministry, let us know.  We will help you set up your Heifer Project ministry with your congregation, family and friends.

CHRISTIAN ACTION:  Through our Christian Action Ministry, we are able to serve the community in many ways, i.e., Whispers of Hope, Women in Need, Interfaith Ministries and others.  When we share the blessings that we have received from Christ, we are better able to help individuals and local organizations on a monthly basis.

SHAWL MINISTRY: The mission of this ministry is to provide prayer shawls to people who are struggling with hardship, illness, recovery or bereavement. Each shawl is lovingly hand made.  While crafting each one, the group prays for the recipient of the shawl. This group finds fellowship in ministry. Everyone is welcome to participate.  Your skill level is not a problem.  If you have the gift of crocheting or knitting, great, but if you are a beginner and want to learn, the group will help to teach you. Please call Park Place Christian Church if you would be interested in being a part of this ministry or would like more information in creating a shawl ministry in your church.

LITURGICAL DANCE: Liturgical Dance is an expression of mind, body and soul. The choreography of soft movements through songs, poems, music or scripture brings to the congregation or community a sense of peace and renewal. “The Joy of the Lord” is the name of Park Place’s Liturgical Dance group. None of the members of the group have a dance back ground.  This group follows the lead of the Lord as God guides them in dance. They dance wherever they are called; churches in the community, Christian events, nursing homes, etc. If you would be interested in being a part of this group, (there are no age restrictions), or would like more information in order to create your own group, please call Park Place Christian Church. We will be glad to help you.

TEACHER’S DAY: During Mid summer when teachers are in preparation for the beginning of the school year, our Christian Action Ministry has a special and unique event called Teacher’s Give Away. At this event new teachers are given anything from books, games, decorations and a variety of teaching material that have been donated by more experienced teachers or retirees. This allows the new teacher to start their teaching career without having to spend money out of their pocket for supplies.

MARDI GRAS PARADE:   As a congregation we celebrate Mardi Gras. We choose a theme (last year” the 60”) then our Care Groups join in making floats full of books, clothes, shoes, toys, boosters seats or whatever the Child Protective Service needs  for the kid’s foster care. Our gifts are presented to God and CPS during a very special worship service and parade.

BIBLES FOR OUR TROOPS: We participate in this ministry by buying and sending Bibles to our troops. This is done in order to bring them comfort and remind them that God is with them along with our heart and prayers. We also send Christmas care packages and gifts to our soldiers.

TRUNK OR TREAT: For 25 years, on Halloween, we have provided the children of our community a safe place to celebrate Halloween, full of fun and treats. Our church is decorated for this event, hot dogs are served for dinner and carnival booths are set up for fun and prizes. Finally when the sun sets and the moon comes out, our decorated car trunks open and come to life for a true Halloween experience. We not only share candy with the children but also our imagination and excitement.

ANGEL BREAKFAST: This is an event that no child should miss. In December we invite children from our congregation and the community to share in the story of the nativity. Through the presence of singing Angels, dance, crafts, and of course a wonderful breakfast, we help children to understand the importance and the real meaning of Christmas. It is a beautiful event for everyone to participate in.

JERUSALEM MARKET PLACE: The days of our Savior’s life are reenacted at this Jerusalem Market Place. Everyone has the opportunity to dress and participate in this reenactment while learning about how life was lived in the time of Jesus.

DISCIPLE MEN: This is a group that meets each month.  They study God’s call on their life as well as plan and participate in Regional Retreats, Work Groups throughout the state, Golf Scrambles twice a year for the whole church and honors women and children at Valentines with a lovely steak dinner.  They also raise money for mission projects throughout Texas with an annual pancake breakfast.

DISCIPLE WOMEN: This is a group that meets each month.  They study God’s call on their life as well as plan and participate in Area Retreats, the Annual Women’s Seminar, Silent Auctions to raise money for church projects and mission groups.  Wherever there is a need for School Supplies, Clean Up Kits, etc. this group steps in.

MISSION WORK:  Park Place has been very active in missions in the United States and Mexico.  We have worked for over 12 years at our mission site in Matamoros, Mexico building homes for disadvantaged families as well as built and repaired an orphanage at Casa Bethel.  For the last 2 years we have worked in hurricane relief in New Orleans and South Texas.  We are always looking for skilled worker to lend a hand, or people with a passion and heart for mission work.  If you would like to join us on our next trip, just let us know.

OUR PARK PLACE YOUTH:  We have youth groups for all ages here at Park Place.  We have our Rainbow Kids, our youngest group, ages K-2nd gd., who meet once a month on Sunday evenings. Our Junior Youth Fellowship, (JYF) 3rd-5th gd., meets each week on Sunday nights as does our Junior High Youth, (Chi Rho) 6th-8th gd., and our Christian Youth Fellowship, (CYF) grades 9th-12th.  Our kids love to go to summer camp and our rallies that meet several times throughout the year.  Our youth are involved in the life of our church and participate in worship both on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.  Mission work happens each year for all our youth so that they understand the importance of giving to their community.
